Hi, I’m Theola
I’m a second generation, Canadian-born, Cantonese-speaking mother. Raising a bilingual child felt lonely and hard without others like us to connect with. I grew up attending Cantonese school on the weekends and wanted to provide the same experience for my son to preserve our culture.
The resources didn't exist in Portland.
So I created Cantonese Play + Learn.
We started as a small group of like-minded parents.
Meeting monthly to teach our children Cantonese and give them a space to play together.
Word quickly spread.
We were featured in newspaper articles in print and online.

Soon our little playgroup became a large community.
Made up of over 200 nuclear and multi-generational families.
Serving the Portland Metro and beyond.
Some families drive over an hour to join us.
Our Mission
Is to connect Cantonese-speaking families by providing a nurturing environment where young children can develop strong language skills and deepen their connection to Cantonese culture. Through interactive language lessons, cultural activities, and community engagement, we empower families to celebrate and preserve their heritage while fostering bilingualism in the next generation.
